Public Storage is the largest self-storage brand in the United States and a self-administered, self-managed real estate investment trust (REIT). Founded in 1972 by B. Wayne Hughes and Kenneth Volk Jr., the company owns, operates, and develops self-storage facilities — operating more than 3,000 locations with approximately 221 million net rentable square feet as of the end of 2024. Beyond storage rentals, it provides tenant insurance and sells packing and moving supplies. Public Storage trades on the NYSE under the ticker PSA and is a member of the S&P 500. In February 2026 it announced the relocation of its corporate headquarters from Glendale, California to Frisco, Texas.
